Andrew has been having repeated ear infections since October 2012.He had an ENT consultation with Dr Mehendale and it was found he was a good candidate for tubes in both of his ears. A myringotomy is an outpatient surgical procedure where an incision is made in the tympanic membrane (eardrum).
Ear tubes, or tympanostomy tubes, are small tubes open at both ends that are inserted into the incisions in the eardrums during a myringotomy. The tubes come in various shapes and sizes and are made of plastic, metal, or both. They are left in place until they fall out by themselves or until they are removed by a doctor. Ear tubes are also sometimes called ventilation tubes.

Andrew had his procedure done on March 22nd. He was given only mild sedation, the whole procedure took less than 10 minutes. He is shown here a "little" loopy on his Tylenol/sedation mixture.
